Racing for Christchurch Gala Dinner
Sunday 1st May 2011

Carbine
When two earthquakes hit the South Island city of Christchurch in 2010 and 2011, my first thoughts were of a dear friend who I have known for nearly 40 years who lives there. Thankfully my friend is safe and well but so many others were not as fortunate. So when I heard about the Auckland Racing Club's Racing for Christchurch Gala Dinner fundraiser, it was an easy decision to offer up my portrait of Carbine as an auction piece, with all proceeds going towards the fund. 2010 Fall Open Juried Exhibition of the
American Academy of Equine Art
Following on from the artist's successful entry into this competition in 2009, three more pieces were accepted for inclusion in the 2010 Fall Open Juried Exhibition of the American Academy of Equine Art being held at the Scott County Arts and Cultural Centre/Gallery in Georgetown Kentucky.
The artist is delighted to announce that her entry "Ladies in Waiting" not only netted the Leonard J. Meiselman Memorial Award for Painting for the second year running but also the Jean Bowman Memorial Award for Painting.
The exhibition will be open from Saturday 18th September 2010 to 22nd October 2010 and will coincide with the World Equestrian Games (25th Sept - 10th Oct 2010). The show can be viewed online at: www.aaea.net/2010fallshow

2009 Fall Open Juried Exhibition of the AAEA
In May of 2009 Barbara submitted three entries into the American Academy of Equine Art's Fall Open Juried Exhibition held at the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky. It is the first step towards becoming a member of the American Academy of Equine Art, a showcase of the finest international equine art talent, including renowned New Zealand-based bronze sculptor Joanne Sullivan-Gessler.
The Fall Open Juried Exhibition is a prestigious annual equine art event and in 2009 it attracted over 600 entries from around the world. Only 91 gallery spaces were available.
Barbara was delighted to have all three of her entries selected given that the event is juried and not all submissions are automatically accepted for display. The artist was even more delighted to be advised that her work "Beau Zam - A Posthumous Portrait" was awarded the Leonard J. Meiselman Memorial Award for Painting. Not only that, two of her three entries sold on the opening night of the exhibition.
